A Thrill-Seekers Guide
The Trans-Savoie Big Alpine Enduro event is point-to-point enduro mountain biking at its very best. Ride 300 km of the world’s foremost mountain bike trails from Val d’Isère to Chamonix over 6 days.
Timed stages take in seemingly endless descents on technical singletrack, while liaison stages are a blend of cruising singletrack, climbing and chairlifts. The route is long and physical and be under no illusion, with an average 5 km vertical drop and 50 km riding per day, you’ll need a high level of fitness to complete the itinerary.
The Trans-Savoie is possibly the most technically challenging and naturally hazardous MTB event in the world.
Day 1 – Val D’Isere, Tignes, St Foy, Seez
Day 2 – Les Arcs, Montchavin-Les-Coches, La Plagne
Day 3 – Peisey-Nancroix to Bozel
Day 4 – Courchevel, Meribel & Villarlurin
Day 5 – Albertville to Megeve
Day 6 – Megeve to Chamonix
2016 will see the fourth incarnation of the Trans-Savoie which takes place between the 21 and 27 August. Register on facebook.com/TransSavoie. Be quick though, there are only enough places for 100 enduro riders, chosen at random but pre-screened for rider ability.
The 1,995 euro fee includes transfer from Geneva airport, all food, logistical support and tented accommodation.
Event organisers trailAddiction also offer a more refined, guided big Alpine riding experience. Follow the same point-to-point route as the race itself, but trade camping for chalet accommodation and take a little more time, providing a good mix of adventure, challenge, and pure riding pleasure.
The trails are the same so riders still require a high level of technical ability, confidence on exposed trails, mountain awareness, and fitness.
