Kitesurfing in Saint-Laurent-du-Var
Saint-Laurent-du-Var is a good freeride kitesurfing spot in an easterly wind as Nice airport conveniently shelters the beach from chop. It’s also the only spot in the Alpes-Maritimes that works in a westerly, but Nice airport becomes a hazard.

Spot Description
Saint-Laurent-du-Var is located a few kilometres from the port of Cagnes-sur-Mer and a stone’s throw from Nice airport. The sandy beach and proximity to many of the Cote d’Azur’s main attractions makes it good for kitesurfers and holidaymakers alike.
The kitesurfing
You’ll find flatwater freeride conditions in Saint-Laurent-du-Var in an easterly or southeasterly when the airport shelters the estuary mouth from waves. Westerly/southwesterly mistral conditions are reserved for experienced riders as the airport and breakwaters become a hazard. A narrow beach lined with palm trees make launching and landing the kite challenging for beginners.
Access to the spot next to the Cap 3000 shopping centre and that’s where you’ll find the best parking. You may need a thicker wetsuit here (or at least an extra mm) as the water from the Var estuary is colder than neighbouring spots.
Where to stay
Résidence Pierre et Vacances hélihotel Marine is a no-frills self-catering apartment-hotel located just 5 minutes walk from the beach. For a more up-market stay, check out the Novotel Nice Aeroport Cap 3000 which is also walking distance to the beach and has a decent pool.
For a more authentic Cote d’Azur experience, there are some good holiday rental and B&B options available within a short drive. Azur 3000 is a 2 person studio in St-Laurent-du-Var and the Chambre d’Hôtes l’Antoline in Cagnes-sur-Mer has views over the sea and offers an outdoor pool and furnished terrace.
If you want to camp, Camping Magali is located approx 6 km inland, but gets mixed reviews for cleanliness.
